When Strangers Come Knocking

It's a scene to which most of us can relate. On a Saturday morning, you want to sleep in after a hard week of work. At about somewhere between 9 and 10 am the doorbell rings, usually followed by loud knocking. You're not expecting any visitors, so you get out of bed and go to peer through the window and see who's interrupting your sleep. In front of your door stands two well-dressed people (usually, but not always, a man and a woman), with a book in their hand and/or a briefcase. You groan to yourself, "Jehovah's Witnesses waking me up! Just go away and leave me alone." You ignore the knocking and go back to bed. Without realizing it, you did a great disservice to Christ. You read that last sentence correctly--you did a great disservice to Christ. Two (or more) people came to your door trying to convert you to a false, non-Christian sect, and you did nothing to defend the One True Church and try to convert them.

In 1 Peter 3:16, our first Pope writes, "But in thy hearts revere Christ as Lord. Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks thee to give the reason for the hope that thou hast. But do this with gentleness and respect,..." Before the Great Apostasy, the Church would send missionaries to the ends of the Earth to make as many converts as possible. Yet, some people in desperate need of the truth came knocking at your door, and you did nothing to help them save their souls. Not only Jehovah's Witnesses, but Mormons, and other false religions actively seek converts door-to-door. If only we had the same zeal for the truth as they do for falsehood! We need to convert all, not just those in the Vatican II sect.

This is the first in a series of posts, to be published the first Monday of each month. Those in false religions don't always come (literally) knocking at your door. It may be a Hindu at work who wants you to try yoga. It could be a "Christian Scientist" who lives next door and invites you to come to their reading room. Each month, I will present a false sect. Unlike the Vatican II sect, I do not see them as a "means of salvation" or possessing "elements of truth" that lead to salvation. That is heresy. They lead to damnation, and the adherents of the various sects must be converted so they may be saved.

In each post, I will present one false sect and give an overview of:
  • The sect's history
  • Their theology
  • Tips on how to share the True Faith with them
It is also imperative that you be strong in your faith first. Jehovah's Witnesses and Mormons (to give but two examples) spend hours each week studying their false theology along with various debate techniques in order to attack all others outside their sect. You might doubt your own faith if you do not know it well enough. Therefore, I hope you will spend time each week reading some of the great approved theologians, in order to know your faith better. When you feel secure in the faith, you may want to try converting those who "come knocking" on the door to your life.

Jehovah's Witnesses
1. History
The Jehovah's Witnesses (hereinafter "JWs") was founded by a Protestant turned skeptic, named Charles Taze Russell (1852-1916). Born in Pennsylvania, Russell attended both Presbyterian and Congregational sect churches as a child. At age 16, he became skeptical of religion because he could not accept the existence of Hell. After a brief period with the Adventist denomination, 27 year old Russell founded the Watch Tower Bible and Tract Society. The "Watchtower" soon had established itself in both Pennsylvania and New York.

Russell's magazine, Zion's Watch Tower and Herald of Christ's Presence, taught that Christ had invisibly returned to Earth in 1874 and that His presence would reach its apex in in 1914, with God's Judgement on the nations of Earth (which he called the end of the "Gentile times") and the establishment of God's Kingdom on Earth. Russell died in 1916, believing himself correct, and that World War I was the beginning of Armageddon.

Upon Russell's death, there were a significant number of his followers, and many began a "power grab," vying to replace him. At the end of the fray, Joseph Rutherford (1869-1942) was elected the leader. He was quick to expel dissidents and consolidate his power. In 1931, Rutherford officially changed the sect's name to the "Jehovah's Witnesses." Rutherford changed and "updated" most of Russell's teachings. Christ didn't return to Earth invisibly in 1874, but rather 1914, corresponding to WW I. He taught that in 1925, various people from the Bible would be resurrected, such as Moses, Abraham and others. Rutherford also made Brooklyn, one of the five boroughs of New York City, the international headquarters of the JWs. Later, JWs would be told that since 1914, Jesus was invisibly present in the Brooklyn headquarters. Most significantly, the JWs started learning their theology in places called "Kingdom Halls" and going door to door trying to convert people before Armageddon and the end of the world.

The most significant changes came after the death of Rutherford and the election of Nathan Knorr (1905-1977) in 1942. Knorr placed the leadership in a Board of Directors known as the Governing Body (of which the President is the head), located in Brooklyn. Under his leadership, the JW's had two sophisticated "study guides" for the Bible; magazines called The Watchtower, and Awake! both of which interpret the Bible for the JW, despite protestations to the contrary. Most importantly, he made their own version of the Bible, The New World Translation. This "bible" is not only denounced by language scholars, but it was purposely made to distort what was actually written so as to conform with the JWs theology.

One of the biggest challenges came over the organization's false prophesy of 1975 (not to mention the false prophesy of resurrections in 1925). In the 1960s, their magazines taught that 1975 would be exactly 6,000 years since the creation of Adam and Eve, and that Armageddon would take place. As a result, many JWs sold their homes and quit their jobs to preach door to door full time. This is similar to the false May 21, 2011 doomsday prophesy of Protestant preacher Harold Camping. As a result of the 1975 debacle, in 1976, a large number of JWs left the organization. Since that time, Brooklyn has been careful about rigid date setting.

2. Theology
  • There is no Trinity. God the Father is Almighty God, known as Jehovah.
  • Jesus Christ is the Archangel Michael; they call Him the "Son of God" because the "first spirit person God made was like a firstborn son to Him (Jehovah)" (See Watchtower booklet, Enjoy Life on Earth Forever! [1982], pg. 14). Christ is "a god"--hence they changed the familiar Last Gospel we hear at Mass to read, "In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was a god."(St. John 1:1, New World Bible; Emphasis mine). Ironically, they fancy themselves "Christian" and they don't even believe in the Divinity of Christ.
  • The Holy Ghost is simply an impersonal force Jehovah uses to do His will
  • Our current condition is the result of the sin of Adam and Eve in the Garden and their disobedience caused death to enter the world. They also believe this was against God’s plan to make the entire earth a paradise.
  • Christ was born of the Virgin Mary and died on a "torture stake"--a pole with no cross beam. JWs hate crosses and crucifixes so much, they will physically break and throw out any that may come into their possession. When Jesus died He became non-existent and was raised as an angel--He no longer has His body.
  • Humans souls will die when we die, and those who are saved will have their souls recreated at the point of the resurrection. Those who are not believers will simply be annihilated (no Hell)
  •  The purpose of life is to earn the right to participate in the future Kingdom of God. The JWs headquarters (aka "The Watchtower Society" in Brooklyn) is necessary to salvation. Only those obedient to the "wise servant" of Jehovah can escape annihilation. Most will live in an earthly paradise, but exactly 144,000 JWs will go to be with Jehovah in Heaven. If the Society "disfellowships" you (akin to excommunication) other JWs must avoid you and you can't be saved unless you ask the Society for re-admission and forgiveness
  • JWs may not participate in the "things of this world." Hence, voting, military service, celebrating any holiday or your birthday are all banned. They claim "Biblical proof" for these bans. Blood transfusions are considered akin to cannibalism. It is the worst thing anyone can do because "your spirit" is in your blood. JWs are expected to deny blood transfusions even if they (or someone under their care) will surely die

(Information for the last two sections taken from several sources and condensed, Most notably, Handbook of Denominations in the United States by Roger Olsen).

3. Proselytizing JWs

  • JWs always start with a question where they can get easy agreement, such as, "Wouldn't you love to live in a world where there are no wars?" You should answer, "Yes, and my faith provides the answer." This will block their line of questioning.
  • When they ask what your faith is don't say "Catholic" because they will think of the Vatican II sect and start talking about pedophilia, etc. Call yourself a "Traditionalist."
  • When they ask, "What's a Traditionalist?" Don't explain, but just say "The true Christianity, not like the Watchtower Society." This will throw them completely off
  • Never accept their literature, because they will not accept anything to read from you because they are taught it is coming from "apostates." If you accept their literature, they think it is "proof" you don't consider them "apostate."
  • Then ask them a few well-placed questions about the JWs' Watchtower Society; get them thinking about its legitimacy
  • Always use the New World Bible (quotes from which I'll provide here) so they can't reject your premises based on a "faulty translation" of the Bible
(a) Attacking the Watchtower Society's View of Christ
The following is taken from Protestant philosopher Dr. Clay Jones, to whom I give full and exclusive credit. I met Dr. Jones once while at a conference. While I (obviously)  do not share his beliefs, he is very open to the True Faith, as was evident when we talked. A true scholar and gentleman, I have hope for his conversion. Having said that, this exchange he had with a JW was brilliant and left his visitor speechless. "C" stands for Dr. Clay or any True Catholic wanting to engage a JW. Of course, "JW" indicates the member of the false sect, Jehovah's Witnesses. Let's hope and pray that Dr. Clay joins the One True Church as well.

C: Let me ask you only one question and after you answer it, I’ll answer any question you want. First I need to clarify a few things. In the New World Translation, John 1:1 reads: “In the beginning the Word was, and the Word was with God, and the Word was a god.” Then in Isaiah 9:6 (NWT) we read: “For there has been a child born to us, there has been a son given to us; and the princely rule will come to be upon his shoulder. And his name will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Eternal Father, Prince of Peace.” So then, does Jehovah equal almighty God?

JW: Yes.

C: Now Jesus isn’t Jehovah, right?

JW: That’s right.

C: Jesus equals a Mighty God?

JW: That is correct.

C: Is Jehovah a true God or a false God?

JW: Jehovah is a true God.

C: Is Jesus a true God or a false God?

JW: Jesus is a true God.

C: Okay, here’s my question: How can you believe there are two true Gods when the Bible says there is only one God? After all, it says in Isaiah 43:10-11 (NWT), “Before me there was no God formed, and after me there continued to be none.” And Isa: 44:6 (NWT) says: “I am the first and I am the last, and besides me there is no God.”

JW: That passage is teaching that there are no capital “G” gods.

C: Hebrew doesn’t have capital letters so the capitalization of the “G” in those passages is an insertion by the NW translators to make us believe there are two categories of gods. It is equivalent to their just inserting the word “almighty” in the text. If the Lord had wanted to proclaim that “besides me there is no Almighty God” instead of what it really says, “beside me there is no god,” He could easily have had Isaiah insert the word “Almighty” in those passages. But He didn’t.

JW: Well, we only worship one God.

C: If I only loved one wife but was married to two women, I would still be a polygamist and your believing there are two true Gods even though you only worship one of them still makes you a polytheist. The Bible says there is only one God.

JW: But the Bible calls Satan a God.

C: Is Satan a true God or a false God?

JW: A false God.

C: You still have two true Gods.

JW: But in Ex. 4:16 (NWT) it says that Moses “will serve as God to him [Pharaoh].”

C: It says Moses will serve “as God.” In other translations of this verse it says Moses will be “like God” to him. Do you see a difference between serving “as” God or “like” God and really being a god? For example, if I said an older woman was “as a mother to me” it wouldn’t mean that I actually came out of her womb, right? Do you see the difference?”

JW: But the word “God” is just a title that can be used for those on the side of God.

C: Then there would be lots of true Gods, but John 17:3 (NWT) says “This means everlasting life, their taking in knowledge of you, the only true God, and of the one whom you sent forth, Jesus Christ.” If that’s true, how could you say that Jesus is a true God?

JW: As I said, we only worship one God.

C: But I’m not asking about how many Gods you worship, I’m asking about how many Gods you think are true. Can you think of a time when someone says that ‘X’ is the ‘only true’ ‘X’ that it doesn’t make everything else in that category false? If their God is the ‘only true’ God then any other god must be a false god, but you have already said that Jehovah and Jesus are both true Gods and that makes… count them… two true Gods.

JW: 1 Cor. 8:4-6 says “…there is no God but one. For even though there are those who are called ‘gods,’ whether in heaven or on earth, just as there are many ‘gods’ and many ‘lords,’ there is actually to us one God the Father, out of whom all things are, and we for him; and there is one Lord, Jesus Christ, through whom all things are, and we through him.” See, the Father is God, not Jesus.

C: But you’ve already agreed there are two true Gods and this passage says there is only one God.

JW: You’re talking about the Trinity.

C: No, I’m pointing out that Jehovah’s Witnesses are polytheists who believe there is more than one true God, even though the Bible tells us there is only one true God.

JW: We didn’t come here to argue. [What?]

C: Okay, well, if you want to bring someone back, I’ll be glad to talk with them. [That hasn’t happened yet.]

(b) Attacking Some Specifics

The Ban on Birthdays
The JWs don't allow birthday celebrations because in Genesis 40:20-22, the Pharaoh hanged the chief baker when it was the ruler's birthday, and in St. Matthew 14:6--as well as in St. Mark 6:21, Herod beheaded St. John the Baptist when it was that pagan ruler's birthday. Therefore, JW reasoning claims that since pagans had someone murdered on the occasion of celebrating their birthday, JWs must not celebrate their birthdays. This is a most silly "guilt by association."

Nevertheless, point out that in Job 1:4, it says of the holy patriarch's family, "And his sons went and held a banquet at the house of each one on his own day; and they sent and invited their three sisters to eat and drink with them." (New World Bible; Emphasis mine). That "his own day" refers to each one's birthday is made clear when we read further, "It was after this that Job opened his mouth and began to call down evil upon his day. Job now answered and said: 'Let the day perish on which I came to be born..."(Job 3:1-3; Emphasis mine). Finally the JW Bible's own translation says of St. John the Baptist: "And you will have joy and great gladness, and many will rejoice over his birth." Isn't rejoicing over the day of someone's birth, celebrating a birthday? Hence, if faithful Job's children celebrated their birthdays, and St. John The Baptist's birthday is an occasion of celebration (rejoicing), the fact that Herod and Pharaoh celebrated their birthdays cannot be a reason to hold birthday celebrations intrinsically "pagan" or "evil."

Is Christ really St. Michael the Archangel?
Invite the JWs to compare these verses in their own Bibles.
  • Jesus has the authority to rebuke Satan in St. Mark 8:33; St. Michael cannot do so in St. Jude 9
  • Jesus receives worship and God’s future Kingdom: Hebrews 1:6; St. Michael rejects worship and is declared NOT to be God's Son in Hebrews 2:5
  • Ask, "How can they be the same if they are opposite of one another in Scripture?"
Conclusion
I've used most of these arguments against the JWs at my door. Once, I really shook two gentleman, such that they were visibly exasperated, and I never saw them again. They probably went to one of the senior JWs who convinced them to put it out of their minds. Or maybe not--maybe the seeds I planted bore fruit and they left the JWs. Maybe they will be led on to join the One True Church. Christ only expects us to try our best; leave the rest in His Hands. Don't be discouraged as you never know what good your efforts will do. Don't turn away people at your door, and in your life, who need to join the Church.

Learn the faith. Learn the falsehoods all around us as you grow in faith. Try and proselytize others. In so doing, not only may you save others, but the soul you ultimately save may well be your own.

  1. Unfortunately, it is not strangers who have come knocking at my door, but JW relatives. The first to convert was my maternal Grandmother who was raised pre-Vatican II. She converted to the Jehovah Witnesses when I was 8 yrs old. She tried her very best to convert everyone around her. She did finally convert my cousin who was the same age as me when he was 16 yrs old. A guy I grew up with and who was the class clown and popular became a sullen, serious and depressed teen and is still this way today. He turned his back on all his old friends and would have nothing to do with any of us, only JW's. He married a JW, became an elder, and all of his children are JW's, even though some turned away for awhile, they eventually came back. From my experience with JW's, they are so brainwashed and indoctrinated with such an air of superiority that it is almost humanely impossible to reason with them. I am not saying we shouldn't proselytize them, we should, but know that we can't do it by human strength alone, it takes an act of God. "For we wrestle not again flesh and blood, but against principalities and powers, against the rules of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places". (Eph. 6:12)

That’s a powerful testimony and very well stated. We do indeed need God’s help. Thankfully, all conversions come from God—something we must remember. All we can do is allow Him to use us as His unworthy instruments.

  3. Your post was very informative. Thank you for the history and I for one love exposing the theology and history of Protestants. I'm eager to see your future posts on more of them. It seems like if a person likes you and is familiar with you and you keep your demeanor tame but yet firm (as long as you know what you're talking about) you're more likely to change a persons mind as opposed to being a stranger, or somebody who is not first willing to hear what you have to say, if they already know what religion you belong to. While I'm all for converting people out of their false religion, I unfortunately have come across Protestants that are either hostile towards Catholicism (because they don't understand how it and the Novus ordo are not the same) or are willing to talk but because of a few hang ups (things they aren't sure about), much like those in the Novus ordo or R&R, they continue to believe their nonsense like a broken record. With that I'll tell you my experience with this police officer who was a die hard Jehovah Witness and somewhat of an acquaintance of mine.

So we talked for a series of at least a couple days and perhaps an hour at a time per day (thereabouts) and he just changed the subject when you exposed the contradictions of his beliefs. We even used his New World Translation of the Bible instead of me getting out my Douay Rheims. I figured by allowing him to have that advantage he'll not have an excuse. Anyways, we talked about the Divinity of Christ and about the Gospel of John where it refers to Jesus (the Word) as "a god" instead of (the Word) being God. I pointed him to Isaiah 9:6 where it says "For a child is born to us, and a son is given to us, and the government is upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, GOD THE MIGHTY, the Father of the world to come, the Prince of Peace." His version called Him THE MIGHTY GOD, but the point is he understood this was referring to Jesus since it was in prophecy in reference to Him. He sat there for a minute and was conflicted because he knew his version of the Bible was contradicting itself. I then asked, if Jesus is a son of God then why is it saying He is God in Isaiah? It's either one or the other but we can't be sure according to your religion. Is it possible for the infallible Word of "a" god to contradict itself (He knew I was messing with him at this point)? He had nothing to say except that he would have to ask his pastor about it which afterwards he never got around to doing because I asked him. We then got on the subject of Hell. When you die your just annihilated and Jehovah wipes you out and remembers you no more, he said. Really? So I made him open his "bible" and showed him about three verses one being Matthew 5:29 "If your right eye makes you stumble, tear it out and throw it from you; for it is better for you to lose one of the parts of your body, than for your whole body to be thrown into hell." After showing him that and other verses I said what is your pastor going to say about that? Eventually he gave up on me because I was the one who wasn't going to change to a religion he couldn't defend or explain. What did I accomplish after spending some hours eating lunch with this man talking about his false religion? You could say I planted a seed, possibly changed his mind in the long run, etc. but in my mind I did what scripture suggested I should not do when it says, "Give not that which is holy to dogs; neither cast ye your pearls before swine, lest perhaps they trample them under their feet, and turning upon you, they tear you." Matt 7:6

That was a great story. Thanks for sharing. I think you’re too hard on yourself. There will always be those whose heart is hardened. You were not “giving that which is holy to dogs,” but keeping the Great Commission to
“Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the world.” (St. Matthew 28: 19-20).

You did God’s work, and should be proud of yourself, at least in my opinion!

Years ago I had a Rabbi tell me that of all the Religions that the Jehovah Witnesses were the closest to the beliefs of the Jewish Religion as the JW's deny the divinity of Jesus and they are non-trinitarian, etc. Just sayin.

  7. Good post.
Joann brought up an interesting point in commenting that non-trinitarianism is a common thread that ties many false Christian sects together with Judaism. Then there's Islam which rejects the Trinity, although they hold Jesus in esteem, unlike Judaism.
Universalism says all are saved. So robbed of God the Son and God the Holy Ghost, there's only the principle of "community spirit" to guide and save such believers.
I hope you will add the U.U. sect to your series. I just dont know much about it. There is a "church" of theirs a few miles away from me, and they are forever plastering their outdoor signs with the wildest lefty/progressive propaganda . I can just imagine Francis finding common cause with them.

Thank you for always leaving thoughtful comments that add to the quality of this blog! UUs are on the list of false sects I will cover. Islam is a mixture of Judaism, Catholicism, and paganism. Mohammed met one of each, and the influence is apparent.
Mohammedans don’t eat the flesh of pigs (Jews), the believe in the Immaculate Conception (Catholic), and Mohammed was taken to “Allah” the false moon god, on a Pegasus or “winged horse.” (Paganism).

  8. Introibo,

Unfortunately, I know more about the JW's than I care to having relatives that converted to them. One thing that has me baffled about the JW's is their baptisms. They are non-trinitarian, yet they baptize in the Name of the Father, Son and Holy Spirit. I know of the Protestant Pentecostal movement called "Jesus Only" and they are non-trinitarian and baptize only in the name of Jesus Christ. Do you know the rationale behind the JW's baptizing? I would think because they are non-trinitarian they would be akin to the Jesus Only and baptize in the name of Jehovah only as they deny the diety of Jesus and the Trinity. (Not much if anything JW's believe makes any sense anyhow, but I have always wondered about the baptism issue). Thanks.

    1. Joann,
JWs baptize with a Trinitarian formula because it gives them a selling point to Protestants and other Trinitarian religions to believe they are “not that different.” Technically, they don’t consider baptism as indispensable to salvation. Jehovah is Almighty God, Jesus is an angel (albeit important in their theology), and the Holy Ghost is God’s power. Hence, they can sell it to their own members as well.

And sell they sure do. They are no more than door to door salesmen. I believe they call it "pioneering"! Unfortunately, these pioneers showed up at my maternal Grandmother's home in 1962 and convinced her that they were bringing her the "truth". That is all the rest of us heard for years that she was in the "truth"!! I believe "truth" is one of their buzz words that they use to make others feel special and give them a sense of superiority over the result of us mortals.

Is religious tolerance not an evil in and of itself, which can at times be permitted until the political situation becomes more tennable? Just wanted to seek some clarification in this regard.

Also, if you know of any nations that engaged in religious tolerance rather than freedom, I'd appreciate that too! The best I can think of is the Austrian Empire under Joseph II, but even his policies were controvercial to say the least, and opposed to the Catholic Church's stance of the time.

      Thank you, and God bless!

    5. Neyoriquans,
Religious tolerance is permitting false sects to have their religion privately practiced in the home and no proselytizing. Catholicism is the State religion. All European Catholic countries such as Belgium, etc. had religious tolerance. No more since Vatican II. So religious toleration is a good per se. Religious liberty is heretical and innately evil.

    6. Hmmm, interesting. As to Belgium, that reminds me of the works from Cardinal Pie of Poitiers speaking on Belgium and the United States' system of separation of Church and State, which I reproduce as follows just as a fun fact:

Fr. de St. Just returns at this point and introduces us to what is perhaps Msgr. Pie's strongest language, with regard to this entire subject [separation of Church and State]:

"To this doctrine of the Church, which Msgr. Pie brought to the mind of the rulers of nations, the liberals would oppose acts favoring separation.

"Certain countries, Belgium and America, for example, haven't they proclaimed the separation of Church and State, and doesn't the Church enjoy a more complete liberty under such a system?"

Cardinal Pie responded firmly to this question:

'THE AMERICAN AND BELGIUM SYSTEM, this system of philosophical-political indifference, shall eternally be a bastard system" (pp. 122-124 in Fr. de St. Just's book) (Selected Writings of Selected Writings of Cardinal Pie of Poitiers, Catholic Action Resource Center, Orlando, Florida, October, 2007, pp. 21-23.)

Of course you speak of religious tolerance in the context of a nation's state religion being Catholicism, so I'm not insinuating you to be at odds with the Cardinal here by any means, since he speaks primarily of religious liberty.

God bless, and Vivat Christus Rex!

    1. @anon4:41
I'm not censoring anything. I've simply closed discussion after a whole week with some commenters with whom there can be no fruitful discussion.

The bottom line is that someone may believe the literal reading of Genesis, or one that comports with the findings of modern science. These commenters want to impose the literal view of Genesis as mandatory for belief, and label the approved theologians as "Modernists." This would also require that Pope Pius XII could not be a true pope, as he taught the possibility of the evolution of the human BODY thereby proving the idea was not settled by the Church.

I don't mind going off topic, but I've had more than enough back-and-forth with people who believe the Earth is the center of the universe, the Moon landing was faked, and everything we think about our world is not accurate but engineered by Jewish Masons lurking behind every door. Of course, only the enlightened few (those commenters and their allies) can see reality. It's like a wacky version of the movie "The Matrix." If they want to believe this "reality," that's fine, but that post was not the forum for bizarre ideas that have no bearing on salvation. When they claim that these ideas MUST be believed, time for discussion to end.

    2. Another post proving your modernism, a hallmark of which is equivocation. We can interpret the descriptions of creation and the physical world in the Bible as (a) literal or (b) metaphorical, can we? And in your case, (b) is based on your own private estimation as informed by a handful of Freemasons that are claimed to be "scientists" over and against the stupid, naive, morons that were the Church Fathers. Is that about right?

Your faith in materialism is directly in contrast to the True Faith. The equivocations you and your ilk introduce to the Faith is directly responsible for people abandoning the Faith as it is not the description found in Genesis or in observation but in the Talmud and detached mathematics--ie, pure mathematics (which isn't a science as there is no experimentation or observation).

You may be able to live with the cognitive dissonance of big bang and evolution vis a vis the Bible and the Faith, but most people who accept the former reject the latter because the former does not need the latter--and, what is more, all of modernity proclaims this. We are all taught from a young age in (((public education))) that there is no guiding force behind the big bang or evolution or any of it. It is all purely accidental. You and your ilk want to grovel before the Satanists who have promulgated this and forced it upon us and our families.

Again, shame on you. Absolutely reprehensible.

    3. @ianintaiwan,
Did anyone ever tell you the definition of a fanatic? It’s one who cannot change his mind and will not change the subject.

First, you suffer from the Great Conspiracy Syndrome. Freemasons are everywhere doing everything. While I fully admit there are conspiracies, the idea that the world is completely different than 99% of the people understand it to be and only an elite few can understand “reality” is the script from the movie “The Matrix.”

This kind of thinking is what led to the idea that Holy Orders conferred by Masons are, ipso facto, invalid or dubious. The Church teaches no such thing. Freemasons can And do confect valid Sacraments unless they manifest a positive contrary intention.

Likewise, assuming ad arguendo, all scientists are Freemasons, that doesn’t invalidate everything they do.

Approved theologians such as Pohle Whom I cited in the comments of the Adam and Eve post of last week, rejected geocentrism. They were all fooled by the Great Conspiracy, right? And so were the popes who approved them. So was Pope Pius XII who taught that evolution of the body was viable. That would make him a false pope for a real pope cannot teach error to the whole Church even when not teaching ex cathedra.

The real reprehensible one is you, for thinking you know more and believe correctly while the popes and their approved theologians are heretics and unenlightened. You must push the time of the Vacancy way back or believe in a Church that can defect. You want to impose a belief on the Church which the approved theologians and popes would not do.

Your whacky theories make you non-Catholic; ironically the Modernists reject the authority of the approved theologians—it is YOU that share much in common with them.

      —-Introibo

    4. "Viable" is pure weasel wording. It is taking neither position and allowing for two possibilities. That is equivocation of the highest order and something modernists absolutely adore.

I bet the fact that Bugnini, the primary architect of the NO Missae was a Freemason is just a coincidence to you.

The fact that you have a movie to immediately refer to when someone tells you that reality does not conform to the lies you were taught in school is no accident. Indeed, instead of referencing something legitimate and learned like Plato's Cave Allegory, you run right to the Hollywood tripe. That is wonderful evidence of you being indoctrinated.

You have presented no evidence and no doctrinal teaching other than the word "viable" vis-a-vis evolution (modernist weasel wording) and some modernist theologian's supposed declarations (never presenting the relevant work in anything other than tiny quotes). To you, these two things are all you need to reject Biblical Creation and embrace kabbalistic and materialistic "creation". You do know that being a sedevacantist puts you into the "conspiracy theorists nutjob" camp, too, don't you? How many "Catholics" are there in the NO sect versus those who--to be kind to you--at least question the NO sect and only attend the Latin Mass (FSSP, SSPX, SSPV, CMRI, and I am sure there are more)? You are a tiny minority surrounded by the NO sect, and you rejecting the NO sect makes you a conspiracy theorist in 95+% of "Catholics" eyes while non-Catholics with their total ignorance on this issue probably think you should be committed.

Yet here you are, proudly declaring you know the exact moment the Church was infiltrated and overthrown. You know that the Church was infiltrated. But do you think it was "bad guys", "communists", or "modernists"? Are you unable to wrap your head around the fact that Freemasons and Jews have attacked Her for centuries? Are you so naive that you think these same people would not have almost complete control over the machinations of this world before they did something as unimaginable as attacking the Church from within? The fact that you think they have had little to no effect on the world in general while they have done untold damage to Christ's Church is so mind-blowing odd that I still think you are some kind of a troll.

Thank you for mentioning Bugnini. There are many who want to reject the Holy Week changes of 1955 because Bugnini was the main person behind it. I don’t care if it was Satan himself. The fact that a true pope approved the changes means that they cannot be evil, heretical, or an incentive to impiety. The Holy Ghost protects the pope. Even Fr Cekada who rejects them, does not declare them evil in themselves because the pope approved.

I’m sorry Pope Pius XII didn’t agree with your version of “reality,” but he did not rule out the possibility of the evolution of the body, which means you can believe because the Church has not condemned the position or settled the matter.

The sad reason so many Sedevacantists are thought of as conspiracy nuts IS BECAUSE OF THE DAMAGE DONE BY PEOPLE LIKE YOU. I’m a Sedevacantist based on sound theological principles, not because of a conspiracy.

    8. I am enjoying the fact that you won't touch the weasel wording modernism inherent in making a scenario different from the Biblical account a "viable" scenario. It isn't rejecting the one over the other and being definitive but carefully creating a doubt in the minds of the faithful. Pure modernism. You, of course, won't even acknowledge this, because you think the Earth is 4.x billion years old and really nothing more than a rock in the fake medium of space that everything sticks to magically (gravity has never been proven and "scientists" have jettisoned Newton's concept in favor of Einstein's concept of the bending of space-time--note, CONCEPTS). Indeed, even water, which never curves in nature and always always always finds its level is somehow magically stuck to this magic earth pear (not a marble like the fake picture from Apollo; see Tyson and other "scientists" today). Trillions of gallons of water stick magically to a rock blasting through the fake medium of space at unheard of speeds because of an unproven conceptual "force"? Pure insanity. Nothing logical and therefore nothing Godly about such a thing. It is a relief knowing that it is all okay because this thing is not real but only in your mind and the minds of everyone else who buys the lies.

Oh, and the constant "expansion" of the universe disproves gravity, so "scientists" have concocted dark matter and dark energy to explain why what we *observe* directly contradicts their "science". I am sure you accept that unobservable, unmmeasurable things such as these are acceptable, right? It is what "science" has declared, and "science" is your religion.

For another example, what we observe is luminaries moving above us. Therefore, we can conclude that we are moving... that is a big no and not scientific in the least.

You are unable to see even the lies and fakery of NASA for what they are. You accept what the Freemasons and Jews put in front of you without question, and that is something no sane person can do or indeed is doing. More and more people understand the lies of this Beast System every day, and yet here you are clinging to a single Pope saying we cannot "rule out the possibility of the evolution of the body" when, at this point, we absolutely can.

In fact, other than clinging to this one line, you have made almost no effort whatsoever to defend your faith-based belief in "science". You have not once said that you accept dark matter and dark energy as apparent phenomena. Do you? Do you accept the multiverse theory? Do you accept the simulation theory? What about panspermia? This is where your "science" exists today. I guess if you accept that God maybe could have had some soulless monkey-human hominid thing birth Adam after thousands and millions of years of soulless monkey-human things existing, you can accept anything.

And Anon, I derive my understanding of the Bible from Fathers and Doctors. Private interpretation is reading the Douay-Rheims Bible and referring to their works to better understand certain passages, is it? No. Private interpretation is suggesting that Genesis should be read metaphorically when the Church has always taught that literal meaning should be accepted? And it should be metaphorical because one Pope allowed for evolution to be a possibility? No. Denying Scripture based on a Papal possibility is quite something.

I take it Introibo does not understand the controversy behind Vatican I, either, but that is neither here nor there. I am more interested in how insane and cognitively dissonant his worldview is vis a vis modern "science".

      Delete
    9. @ianintaiwan,
The anonymous commenter is correct that you are a Protestant. You do not privately read the Bible, and on your own authority, claim to "better understand certain passages." It is false that the Church has always taught the literal meaning of Genesis as the approved theologians and the popes who approved their works have repeatedly stated. Pope Pius XII would not declare something a possibility if it was "always taught by the Church." He would then be contradicting the Universal and Ordinary Magisterium, which is impossible for a true pope protected by the Holy Ghost from teaching error to the Church, even when not ex cathedra.

This you cannot escape. As to the Church Fathers, St. Augustine had this to say in "De Genesi ad Litteram:" "Perhaps Sacred Scripture in its customary style is speaking with the limitations of human language in addressing men of limited understanding...The narrative of the inspired writer brings the matter down to the capacity of children."
St. Augustine also God created the world with the capacity to develop--a view harmonious with what Pope Pius XII and the approved theologians taught.

As this is not a science blog, I will answer one of your contentions, namely that I DO believe the Earth is around 4.6 billion years old and the universe is around 13.8 billion years old. Scientists believe this because several lines of evidence support this view. The easiest one to understand is by asking a simple question: How long would it take light from distant objects to reach the Earth? The speed of light has been EXPERIMENTALLY MEASURED AND CONSTANT. The sun is 93 million miles away from Earth. Since light travels 186,000 miles per second, it takes about 8 minutes for the light to reach Earth. If the sun suddenly went dark, we would not know it for eight minutes. To see the sun is, in a real sense, looking back into the past for 8 minutes.

The light from other stars takes millions and even billions of years to reach the Earth. Therefore, the universe must be at least this old. Protestant fundamentalists such as Ken Ham and Barry Setterfield, have posited a gratuitous assertion the light traveled faster in the past. Sutterfield's work is so full of statistical errors, even most Fundamentalists reject his idea based on no evidence.

However, none of this will register with ianintaiwan. Maybe a Jewish Freemason invented a time machine and convinced St Augustine to join their nefarious Great Conspiracy and write what he did so as to confuse future generations and make them accept Satanic science!! Yeah, that's the answer!

      ---Introibo

    10. Modern science does not have all the answers. Using the scientific method perfected by St Thomas, modern science actually proves very little. Everything they proclaim as gospel is actually unsubstantiated assertions. They make observations and draw conclusions based on an a world view that God does not exist. There is absolutely not one shred of provable evidence that the earth is 1 billion or 4 billion or even a million years old. We simply do not know and I will not submit my intellect to a bunch of atheists who claim life began because lightning struck a mud puddle 4 billion years ago. Life began on this planet because God willed it so. How he did it is anyones guess.

      Delete
    11. Tom,
I never claimed science has all the answers, but it does seem to have some. There is plenty of evidence that the Earth is very old—do you want to start with the carbon dating of rocks? The antiquity of the Earth was originally inferred from research done in the 18th century by Christian geologists, decades before Darwin, and was refined throughout the next two centuries by further discoveries. Of course life on Earth began because of God. How He did it is not known but you should follow the evidence where it leads.

If you want to believe in a young Earth, go right ahead. Pope Pius XII didn’t share your belief—he supported the Big Bang Theory.
I don’t want ianintaiwan dictating his ideas of a young Earth and a flat Earth, a faked Moon landing, and a literal reading of Genesis as dogma. It is NOT. You CAN believe that, but you are not REQUIRED TO DO SO.

One more thing: Development is adaptation/microevolution a la dog breeds and not simple animals becoming more complicated animals over vast stretches of time. Darwin himself only observed microevolution. In fact, let me drop this little bit of knowledge for you: the 2nd LAW of thermodynamics refutes the THEORY of evolution on its face. Everything, literally everything, moves toward disorder. Entropy is nature. Evolution isn't.

Would it be a disservice to Christ for a Catholic not to go knocking on their doors (if we know where the Jehovah Witnesses live) or going to their Kingdom Halls and making an attempt to convert them when we have some free time? What if you were in a hurry and needed to be some place and a Jehovah Witness came to your door. Would it be a disservice to Christ if you didn't take the time out for what you needed to do, in order to stop and talk to them?

They are some of the friendliest people and I love them but where would you start to try to convert them? I know their religion quite well and one of the silly things about their religion is that they don't seek to convert people because they are pacifist. If they don't bother to convert people how do we expect them to even bother believe anything we say? Any advice?

Finally, as to the Amish, they are very difficult to convert, as they live separately from the world and will be shunned by even their own families. Perhaps leaving some literature would be best in their case. There are some old pamphlets about “the Only Church that goes back to the time of Christ” online.

I hope you continue on this idea, and also eventually include Mormons. I live outside the US and would love to know what to say to these poor people as they roam around. God bless you! And your family!

  19. I live across the street from a Kingdom Hall. Today, a few blocks away, I saw 2 JW women who had set up shop on the sidewalk with a table, their Bible's and literature. This is the first time I saw JW's doing this. Perhaps going door to door is now a thing of the past.

  21. How about putting up a sign: "JWs are kindly asked to knock, when knocking, after 11am, not 9 or 10, please!"
