In St. Jude 1:3, we read, "Dearly beloved, taking all care to write unto you concerning your common salvation, I was under a necessity to write unto you: to beseech you to contend earnestly for the faith once delivered to the saints." [Emphasis mine]. Contending For The Faith is a series of posts dedicated to apologetics (i.e., the intellectual defense of the truth of the Traditional Catholic Faith) to be published the first Monday of each month. This is the next installment.
Sadly, in this time of Great Apostasy, the faith is under attack like never before, and many Traditionalists don't know their faith well enough to defend it. Remember the words of our first pope, "But in your hearts revere Christ as Lord. Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have. But do this with gentleness and respect..." (1Peter 3:16). There are five (5) categories of attacks that will be dealt with in these posts. Attacks against:
- The existence and attributes of God
- The truth of the One True Church established by Christ for the salvation of all
- The truth of a particular dogma or doctrine of the Church
- The truth of Catholic moral teaching
- The truth of the sedevacantist position as the only Catholic solution to what has happened since Vatican II
In addition, controversial topics touching on the Faith will sometimes be featured, so that the problem and possible solutions may be better understood. If anyone had suggestions for topics that would fall into any of these categories, you may post them in the comments. I cannot guarantee a post on each one, but each will be carefully considered.
Beware Charles Coulombe
There's a new internet platform for the R&R, "Pelican Plus." It has the usual cast of characters with their half-baked theology, wrong premises, and false conclusions (See pelicanplus.com). The "Founding Collaborators," as they call themselves, come replete with titles: Dr. Peter Kwasniewski "Tradition & Sanity" (more like "Novelty and Schizophrenia"); Kennedy Hall "Mere Tradition"("Mere Ramblings"); Timothy Flanders "The Meaning of Catholic" ("..is the Opposite of What he Thinks");Dr. Edward Schaefer "The Collegium" ("Kindergarten Katholic"); Nicholas Cavazos "The Traditional Thomist" ("...For Those Who Don't Know Philosophy"); and Dan Sevigny "Restoring Christian Culture Initiative" ("Not With Vatican II You Won't").
It's sad as what passes for "Traditional Catholicism." Novus Ordo Watch made this insightful remark on "X:"
Some Semi-Traditionalists are putting together a new internet platform called 'Pelican Plus'. It will feature content from some familiar recognize-and-resist gatekeepers (and others): Kwasniewski, Flanders, Hall, Cavazos. https://pelicanplus.com They are declaring their stuff "content you can trust", of course, but that is not terribly meaningful. Furthermore, although they acknowledge the Vatican II Church's hierarchy to be the legitimate Roman Catholic authority having the care of souls, you can bet your bottom dollar that they will not make the content on Pelican+ dependent on the prior approval of any 'Catholic bishop' who's currently in charge of the diocese where they reside or a diocese or territory where the content is hosted. (Emphasis mine).
To me this platform was nothing very newsworthy until I saw Pelican Plus make the following announcement on X:
We’re thrilled to welcome Charles A. Coulombe (@RCCoulombe) to Pelican+!
A celebrated author, historian, and storyteller, Charles has spent decades writing, lecturing, and exploring the intersections of faith, culture, and history. From Oxford debates to royal palaces, his life has been anything but ordinary.
Now, Charles is bringing his unmistakable voice to something new at Pelican+. A bit of chaos, perfectly under control. (Posted on 11/13/25).
Charles Coulombe's life has definitely been "anything but Catholic." Coulombe has been deeply involved in the occult (he claims to have repented of that) and remains a Feeneyite heretic (to his credit he is not a follower of Fred and Bobby). He also denigrates the philosophy of St. Thomas Aquinas, the surest sign of one who has broken with the Catholic Faith.
This post will expose Coulombe and it will be apparent why any "Traditional Catholic" platform that sponsors him is not "Catholic" and should be avoided.
Charles Coulombe: Involved with the Occult
Between 1987 and 1999, Coulombe wrote no less than seven articles for the occultist magazine entitled Gnosis Magazine. Although it is no longer published, there is access to back issues, and the content is pure evil. The editors, Richard Smoley and Jay Kinney, wrote a book entitled Hidden Wisdom. Here is how it is described:
The co-editors of Gnosis magazine explore the many esoteric traditions that Western culture has to offer. While terms from Eastern spiritual practices such as zen, mantra, and karma have become part of our daily lexicon, the traditions of Western spirituality have been largely unexplored by people searching for non-mainstream routes to spiritual experience. But for those who identify with Western culture, Western religious traditions have their own wisdom teachings that are more suitable to their needs and expectations. Many of those searching for alternative religions are not even aware that Western civilization has always had its own traditions, which are often hidden. In this fascinating introduction to non-mainstream Western spirituality, the coeditors of Gnosis magazine--today's leading journal of mystical spirituality--guide you through the teachings of Jung and Gurdjieff, the Kabbalah, neo-paganism, shamanism, alchemy, Sufism, and more. Explaining the history and practice of each tradition and describing its important figures, the authors present the ideas, strengths, and weaknesses of each tradition and offer a wealth of resources for those interested in pursuing these paths further.
Larry Dossey, M.D. has said "this book is a treasure. Highly recommended." This book represents a distillation of the research and inquiry that the authors undertook as editors of GNOSIS Magazine.
(See gnosismagazine.com/about_gnosis/hiddenwisdom.html; Emphasis mine).
Three of the articles he wrote are: 1. "The Esoteric Orthodoxy of Catholicism", on "Appreciating traditional Catholicism from an esoteric perspective" 2. "Portals of Sleep" explaining that "the ancient Celts, dreams were a door to the land of Faerie" and 3. "The Secret Church of John" on "An inquiry into the legend of the 'hidden Church of John - said to exist above and beyond the outer Church."
If all of this sounds disturbing, it should. However, it gets worse. Coulombe participated in Tarot card readings with a "Gnostic bishop," Dr. Hoeller (See vimeo.com/user107247931?fbclid=IwY2xjawKs3ThleHRuA2FlbQIxMABicmlkETFPQ1o1NkZKZG9mOW93WU5iAR5ePtpm96Z5vFpxawSeJ9vY_Sqgb365Gd5c_4PZTiFHdhRxXVFMfxJ5yvBzSA_aem_fnVu0rsLRQhhyrA_z6vN9Q---for videos with Coulombe).
Tarot cards are a form of divination. One of the most prevalent evils is that of divination. Divination has existed in all cultures throughout history. Its basic idea involves foretelling the future or accessing occult information by various means. Traditionally, the person who practiced divination was regarded as having supernatural powers. Despite its frequent modern reformulation in psychological or parapsychological terms (e.g., receiving information from “the unconscious” or “higher” mind), historically, divination has always been an attempt to communicate with the supernatural or “divine” realm in order to secure information from the “gods.” Its fundamentally pagan and spiritistic nature has never changed, regardless of how “modern” its practices have become today.
The condemnation of divination comes to us from the passages of the Bible (as rightly interpreted by the Magisterium) and the Church of Her own authority. According to theologian Slater:
On Divination. We here suppose that the devil, a wicked spirit of great intelligence and power, but subject to God, exists and continually interferes in the affairs of men in order to ruin them. This truth belongs to the Catholic Faith and cannot be denied without sin. The sin of divination is committed when the devil is invoked expressly or tacitly in order to discover what is secret and hidden. There is express invocation of the devil when his aid is expressly implored. The devil is tacitly invoked when altogether inadequate means are used to find out what is occult [hidden], means which are not sufficient for the purpose naturally, and which have not been ordained by God for that purpose. The devil is eager to be appealed to in order the more easily to attain his own ends, and anyone who uses such inadequate means to find out hidden secrets virtually appeals to the devil to help him. A great variety of such means of divination has been in use from the earliest times among all nations; and periods which have witnessed a decay of faith have also witnessed a recrudescence [recurrence] of these superstitions...The devil sometimes takes possession of the body of a human being and manifests what is secret through it; this was called pythonism. The devil had his prophets as God had. In necromancy the devil answers through the dead called to life again...Divination is mortally sinful, for it is a great insult to God to hold intercourse with and seek aid from the devil, His bitter enemy; and besides, it is most dangerous to the parties concerned. He is wont gradually to insinuate himself until he has his victim within his power, and then he works on him his evil will. (See A Manual of Moral Theology, [1925], 1:141-142; Emphasis mine).
Therefore, let no one say to you that divination (in any form) is "harmless," or "only used as entertainment," or is OK if you believe in God because He protects you (God will never protect someone who deliberately exposes himself to evil through sin). The Bible is very clear as to what God thinks of divination:
Let no one be found among you who sacrifices their son or daughter in the fire, who practices divination or sorcery, interprets omens, engages in witchcraft, or casts spells, or who is a medium or spiritist or who consults the dead. Anyone who does these things is detestable to the LORD; because of these same detestable practices the LORD your God will drive out those nations before you. (Deuteronomy 18:10-12).
Do not practice divination or sorcery. (Leviticus 19:26).
He sacrificed his sons in the fire in the Valley of Ben Hinnom, practiced sorcery, divination and witchcraft, and consulted mediums and spiritists. He did much evil in the eyes of the LORD, provoking him to anger. (2 Chronicles 33:6).
Then the LORD said to me, "The prophets are prophesying lies in my name. I have not sent them or appointed them or spoken to them. They are prophesying to you false visions, divinations, idolatries and the delusions of their own minds" (Jeremiah 14:14).
And it came to pass, as we went to prayer, a certain girl, having a pythonical [telling the future] spirit, met us, who brought to her masters much gain by divining. This same following Paul and us, cried out, saying: "These men are the servants of the most high God, who preach unto you the way of salvation." And this she did many days. But Paul being grieved, turned, and said to the spirit: "I command thee, in the name of Jesus Christ, to go out from her." And he went out the same hour. (Acts 16:16-18).
Tarot cards probably originated in Italy in the 14th century since the earliest known explanation of their usage dates to 1391. The pack of cards, known as the Tarocco, is made up of 22 major enigmas, whose figures represent a synthesis of the mysteries of life; and 56 minor images incorporating 14 figures in four series (gold, clubs, swords and goblets). The 22 major enigmas correspond to the letters of the Hebrew alphabet and the number of hieroglyphs the ancient Jews used in divination. Each major enigma has an image with a particular meaning, e.g. Enigma I is the Minstrel, which signifies The Being, the spirit and creation; and Enigma XV is the Devil, which signifies magic, eloquence, commerce and mystery. Enigmas I through XI comprise the solar way, which is active, conscious, reflective and autonomous; while enigmas XII through XXII denote the lunar way, which is passive, unconscious, intuitive and possessed. The four series of the 56 minor images have the following significance: gold signifies intellectual activity; clubs, government; swords, military career; and goblets, the "priesthood." Practitioners of Tarot believe that these enigmas, images and series represent the sum of the knowledge of all sciences, particularly astrology, and in the permutations in "dealing the cards" are capable of revealing the future and solving all problems.
An ex-tarot card reader admitted after she broke away from the practice, “It was after getting rid of them that there were several strange happenings, I began to feel the presence of a spirit, which kept visiting me between May and August. I realized the cards had actually connected me with ‘something,’ as I started to feel a presence which kept coming to me, very often, almost weekly. It came at any time … because I had finally broken the connection, and it was trying to keep it.” (See https://newagedeception.wordpress.com/2012/06/06/danger-of-the-tarot-cards-testimony-of-tina-an-ex-tarot-card-reader/).
In 2002, a sniper who murdered several people left a tarot death card at the scene of one of his shootings along with the blasphemous message "I am God." The tarot cards were (of course) defended by an occultist. If a serial sniper sought by police left the "death" tarot card found near a shooting scene in Maryland, he or she likely doesn't have much of an understanding of tarot, says a woman who's produced instructional audiotapes on the fortunetelling cards.
"Anybody who knows tarot [knows] the death card is a good card in the deck," said Tori Hartman, writer and narrator of 12 Step Tarot and Learn How to Read the Tarot in an Hour. "It is basically transformation and it tells you that old ways of thinking are transforming." Transforming into something from Hell no doubt. (See https://abcnews.go.com/US/story?id=89996).
This is what Charles Coulombe was using. To be fair, Coulombe pledged not to do further public tarot readings after a Vatican II sect "priest" reprimanded him, but his involvement in the occult goes back into at least the 1980s and was more than "experimentation:" his involvement went deep. I cannot help but question how a man who claims erudition and has written books on Catholic topics could get involved with tarot cards and a Gnostic sect. A plea of ignorance must be dismissed.
Charles Coulombe: Feeneyite Heretic
Coulombe is the author of a book, first published in the 1990s under the pen name Thomas A. Hutchinson, entitled Desire and Deception: How Catholics Stopped Believing. It is now published under his real name. The book is one of the worst I've ever read; Fred and Bobby Dimond seem like top-tier authors compared to Coulombe.
In summary, the rambling book explains that the Church misunderstood the dogma Extra Ecclesiam Nulla Salus for hundreds of years. This was due to the rejection of Neo-Platonism for Thomism. Apparently, the great Aquinas was responsible for the "heresy" of Baptism of Desire and Baptism of Blood. The Church was "saved" by the heroic actions of excommunicated Jesuit Leonard Feeney.
Two aspects will be addressed: 1. Coulombe's attempt to rehabilitate and lionize the heretical monster Leonard Feeney, and 2. his denigration of the Angelic Doctor and Thomism.
A Feeney Sycophant
For a so-called historian, Coulombe is either culpably ignorant or less than honest when holding up Leonard Feeney as an ersatz "savior" of the Church. (Although validly ordained as a Jesuit priest in 1928, Feeney is not to be honored with the title of "Fr." since he was excommunicated a vitandus by the Supreme Sacred Congregation of the Holy Office, with approval of Pope Pius XII, in 1953. Likewise, we do not call Martin Luther, a validly ordained Augustinian priest, "Fr. Luther" since his solemn excommunication by Pope Leo X).
Here's what Coulombe OMITS. Leonard Feeney:
- was never qualified as a theologian or canonist
- was disobedient to his lawful superiors and refused to report to the Holy See during the reign of Pope Pius XII and defend his teachings. He was subsequently excommunicated by Pope Pius XII
- taught a strange, mixed-up notion of Justification and Salvation which is rejected even by his modern day followers
- started a "religious order" consisting of married couples with children without ecclesiastical approval and in violation of Canon Law
- abused the children of those "religious" by raising them communally and depriving them of their mother and father as God intended
- taught that baptized infants were not somehow in the Mystical Body of Christ and could not be considered "children of Mary"
Contemptuous of Thomism
I'll let the Church speak on behalf of St. Thomas and his philosophy against the mindless rantings of Coulombe.
The 1917 Code of Canon Law:
Canon 1366, section 2.
Professors shall treat studies in rational theology and philosophy and the instruction of students in these disciplines according to the system, teaching, and principles of the Angelic Doctor and hold to them religiously.
Canon 589, section 1
Religious correctly instructed in lower disciplines shall diligently pursue philosophical studies for at least two years and sacred theology for at least four years, adhering to the teachings of D[om] Thomas according to the norm of Canon 1366, section 2, according to the instructions of the Apostolic See.
Pope Leo XII:
Therefore in this also let us follow the example of the Angelic Doctor, who never gave himself to reading or writing without first begging the blessing of God, who modestly confessed that whatever he knew he had acquired not so much by his own study and labor as by the divine gift. (Aeterni Patris, para. #33).
In the Councils of Lyons, Vienna, Florence, and the Vatican one might almost say that Thomas took part and presided over the deliberations and decrees of the Fathers, contending against the errors of the Greeks, of heretics and rationalists, with invincible force and with the happiest results. (Ibid; para. #22)
Pope St. Pius X:
If the doctrine of any writer or Saint has ever been approved by Us or Our Predecessors with such singular commendation and in such a way that to the commendation were added an invitation and order to propagate and defend it, it may easily be understood that it was commended to the extent that it agreed with the principles of Aquinas or was in no way opposed to them. (See Doctoris Angelici).
In his greatest encyclical against Modernism, the saintly Pontiff recommends Aquinas and his philosophy as an antidote to Modernism:
In the first place, with regard to studies, We will and ordain that scholastic philosophy be made the basis of the sacred sciences. It goes without saying that if anything is met with among the scholastic doctors which may be regarded as an excess of subtlety, or which is altogether destitute of probability, We have no desire whatever to propose it for the imitation of present generations (Leo XIII. Enc. Aeterni Patris). And let it be clearly understood above all things that the scholastic philosophy We prescribe is that which the Angelic Doctor has bequeathed to us, and We, therefore, declare that all the ordinances of Our Predecessor on this subject continue fully in force, and, as far as may be necessary, We do decree anew, and confirm, and ordain that they be by all strictly observed. In seminaries where they may have been neglected let the Bishops impose them and require their observance, and let this apply also to the Superiors of religious institutions. Further let Professors remember that they cannot set St. Thomas aside, especially in metaphysical questions, without grave detriment. (para. #45; Emphasis mine).
Pope Pius XII:
In his encyclical condemning "false opinions threatening to undermine the foundations of Catholic doctrine," Humani Generis of 1950, the Pontiff had this to say in paragraphs 31 and 32:
If one considers all this well, he will easily see why the Church demands that future priests be instructed in philosophy "according to the method, doctrine, and principles of the Angelic Doctor," since, as we well know from the experience of centuries, the method of Aquinas is singularly preeminent both of teaching students and for bringing truth to light; his doctrine is in harmony with Divine Revelation, and is most effective both for safeguarding the foundation of the faith and for reaping, safely and usefully, the fruits of sound progress.
How deplorable it is then that this philosophy, received and honored by the Church, is scorned by some, who shamelessly call it outmoded in form and rationalistic, as they say, in its method of thought. They say that this philosophy upholds the erroneous notion that there can be a metaphysic that is absolutely true; whereas in fact, they say, reality, especially transcendent reality, cannot better be expressed than by disparate teachings, which mutually complete each other, although they are in a way mutually opposed. Our traditional philosophy, then, with its clear exposition and solution of questions, its accurate definition of terms, its clear-cut distinctions, can be, they concede, useful as a preparation for scholastic theology, a preparation quite in accord with medieval mentality; but this philosophy hardly offers a method of philosophizing suited to the needs of our modern culture. They allege, finally, that our perennial philosophy is only a philosophy of immutable essences, while the contemporary mind must look to the existence of things and to life, which is ever in flux. While scorning our philosophy, they extol other philosophies of all kinds, ancient and modern, oriental and occidental, by which they seem to imply that any kind of philosophy or theory, with a few additions and corrections if need be, can be reconciled with Catholic dogma. No Catholic can doubt how false this is, especially where there is question of those fictitious theories they call immanentism, or idealism or materialism, whether historic or dialectic, or even existentialism, whether atheistic or simply the type that denies the validity of the reason in the field of metaphysics. (Emphasis mine).
Conclusion
Charles Coulombe was deeply involved in the occult and cannot claim he was unaware of the Church's teaching on such, having studied Catholicism for many years. Although he claims to have sincerely repented of his occult involvement, he has not forsaken the Feeneyite heresy. He makes a "hero" out of the excommunicated, child-abusing lunatic, Leonard Feeney. He disparages the great St. Thomas Aquinas and his philosophic methodology, claiming against all Church teaching, that it has led to error and even heresy.
Now, an R&R platform, Pelican Plus, has this man writing for them as a "good Catholic." Are these "Founding Collaborators" of the platform ignorant of all this information? If not, why do they allow him to write for them at all? Stay away. The "+" in Pelican Plus is Feeneyism, and the denigration of Aquinas coming from a former occultist.

I used to read Charles alot, not knowing he is an occultist! Meanwhile, you may have heard that Leo XIV visited the Blue Mosque in Turkey. This is an insult to his fellow brother Fray Julian Bermejo, an early 1800s crusader against Muslim pirates in Southern Cebu. I am starting to promote his cause in Cebu.
ReplyDeleteFrom my blog: https://tradmasscebu.blogspot.com/2025/02/fray-julian-bermejo-el-parrocco-capitan.html
DeleteNota bene, Fray Bermejo was an Augustinian like Leo XIV Prevost, hence I called him a fellow brother.

Maybe he is the PLUS...Pelican plus poison. Aren't they all spreading poison though? Even a NO RR priest says all the time, a piece of chocolate can be 99% chocolate and 1% poison but it still will kill you. He uses this analogy for all the NO false teachings leading the masses to hell.
ReplyDelete@anon5:31
DeleteI agree with that comment. One must stay clear of ALL poison, 100% of it, to save his/her soul!

In the absence of a true Pope, there are many blind people leading other blind people. Those who follow the pseudo-traditionalists of the R&R movement or who fall into the trap of occultism are surely going astray ! When I left the Novus Ordo, God helped me by leading me to your blog and Novus Ordo Watch. May God guide those who want to be true Catholics to good resources like these !

Lol mere ramblings, so true
ReplyDeleteI chuckled at that one in particular too! A relative used a couple of his appeal-to-emotion, no-substance, anti-sedevacantist writings to criticize our decision to embrace the true Faith. I wonder if he would be pleased for his writings to be used in this way. Best case, I think, "Lord forgive him, he knows not what he does."
DeleteAlso, Charles Coloumbe had connections with the gnostic "bishop" Stephen A. Holler, and the Anne Besant Lodge in California. This was reported by the Call Me Jorge blog, which is now defunct for being based.
ReplyDeletePoni,
DeleteYes. The "bishop" I referenced above is him. Coulombe helped him with tarot readings.

That was a great blog. Happily several of its entries remain on the Internet Archive. https://web.archive.org/web/20250000000000*/https://callmejorgebergoglio.blogspot.com
DeleteYay!
DeleteInteresting! Never trusted anything from CC and the rest in that group and professional "Catholics" who talk non stop in confusing circles. Were there talking heads at other times who made a living like they do? This is one clear way they seem worse than Protestants and their prosperity gospel and mega churches. It was also a clue that had me questioning the NO...why do we have to keep buying more books, pay for expensive retreats etc to learn the faith, like we had to be rich to learn and progress. Didn't seem to be evidence of generations before is doing these things.

Is this Gary Giuffre a sede? Do many believe this Siri thesis? It seems NOW does not. Much of what he says seems true, as freemasons are Jews for the most part, right?
Also, I get confused over indulgenced prayers I pray daily that call for prayers for the Pope, would I be praying for the future pope? Even though prayer is written for current pope?
Thanks!
Yes, GG is Sede, though I think (somewhere in that 4 hour set of interviews) he does spell out sede-privationism or perhaps something related.
DeleteI personally think much of what he says there regarding Siri and the 1958 conclave is more right than wrong - something happened in it which produced a line of false popes - and was re-inforced in 1963. After that, the Catholic Church was eclipsed and they were all heretics, INCLUDING Siri. If ever he were authentically pope, he must have lost it.
Re praying for the pope's intentions, I just offer for the "intentions of the papacy: the Church, propagation of the Faith, .. etc". I used to pray explicitly for the intentions of Pius XII even though he's long gone, I'm sure his intentions are still valid.
Freemasonry is to Zionism as the Big Mac is to McDonalds.
Delete@anon2:15
DeleteYou're right about the R&R. I know little about Giuffre.
As to the Siri Thesis, I've written about it.
See https://introiboadaltaredei2.blogspot.com/2015/02/one-question-siri-cant-answer.html
Finally, the prayers for the pope's intention are not for any particular pontiff. It is for the intentions of the papacy whether or not there is currently a living pope.
According to theologian Davis:
"The pope's intention comprises the exultation of Holy Mother Church, the propagation of the Faith, the uprooting of heresy, the conversion of sinners, peace and concord among Christian nations, and the other needs of Christianity." (See "Moral and Pastoral Theology," 3:429, [1945]).

Thanks to all who clarified and answered my questions, most grateful!
DeleteDear Introibo, your comment touches on a topic near and dear to me! Father Gabriel (Lavery, CMRI) describes the tacit will of the popes as what supplies the necessary/supplied jurisdiction to the sedevacantist clergy. Many people seemed confused, thinking he was referring to a particular pope after he was deceased. People seemed to have a difficult time grasping that the office of the papacy itself will always have certain features, regardless of current occupant (or lack thereof). Learning more about Catholic teaching on the Faith has been one of the great blessings of converting out of the Novus Ordo.

PS Thank you for an incisive and meticulous article against yet another man with erroneous beliefs lending himself as an authority on matters of Faith.

RE: AnonymousDecember 1, 2025 at 3:54 PM and Introibo
Delete"If Siri ever had the papacy he must have lost it" -- or it was 'taken out of the way' (2 Thess. 2:7 and Apoc. 12:5). If this is so, then anything he did or did not do afterwards cannot be held against him. We think the papacy was 'taken out of the way' because an impossible scenario was presented to him.
If 2 Thess.2:7 had not happened in 1958 then when ?
This is he; Exactly! The pope & papacy are the Katecon. Indeed, in the original Greek, due to the more heightened use of tense, the Apostle used two words: 1 referring to a person and the 2nd to the office associated with that person. The Katecon is St. Peter, and all Peters and this is given some expression in the papal tiera: Vicar of Christ, father of all nations and of all kings. And it is this divine authority which flows from the papacy throughout the Church and indeed also all nations and their secular institutions and which affords relative peace. It keeps the Leviathan at bay.
DeleteThe Katecon is gone and over the course of the six and a half decades since, Leviathan has awoken and permeated all worldly institutions & bodies; hence wickedness is rife and Christian morals have been turned upside down. As goes the Church, so the world.
There is a very good article from 2022 on 1 Peter 5 ('1Luther 5' as it is now) regarding this.
Anyway, this is why I think something most wicked must have happened in the 1958 conclave because it is from there that we labour under a line if false popes.

ReplyDeletegives a listing of 16 of his books, and other basic info about him. When Google AI is asked to provide "inside scoop" about CC, the response was:
"Born in NYC in 1960 and raised in LA, CC was a stand-up comedian for 3 years on the Sunset Strip in LA... He is described by fans as having "a very sharp wit" and being an "intelligent, well-intentioned eccentric". Critics label his ideas as "weird" or "stupid stuff" that desires the "destruction of democracy". He engages with his audience and sometimes appears in the comments sections of articles about him, often with a sense of humor. He splits his time, residing in both Vienna, Austria, and LA, CA, USA. He remains an active author and lecturer."
In light of that, I have an idea. It shouldn't be that difficult for us to find 1 or 2 or 3 functional e-mail addresses for him. Let him know about Introibo's article above. Given that AI "thinks" that CC often responds in comment sections of articles about him, let us issue a polite invitation for him to do so here.
@anon11:47

Why is Sunset Blvd so famous? G AI's answer is:
Delete"Sunset Boulevard is famous for its long history intertwined with Hollywood and the entertainment industry, acting as a symbol of glamour and culture for decades. The most famous stretch, the Sunset Strip, is legendary for its role in the nightlife scene, from early prohibition-era speakeasies to rock and roll clubs, heavy metal venues, and comedy clubs that helped launch the careers of many stars."
This is an EXTREMELY demon haunted locale!
CC aspired to be a J. Carson or D. Letterman?!
A stand-up CC (= Catholic Comedian ?!) in LA.
https://grokipedia.com/page/Charles_A._Coulombe
DeleteGrok has far more info than Wiki does, including such trivia that: "Upon moving to Los Angeles, the family resided in an apartment building owned by the television psychic Criswell, immersing [young Charles] Coulombe in Hollywood's cultural milieu..." - This is the first time in my life I've encountered "TV psychic". Is there any sort of journalism or media "bar exam" to pass, where one can be licensed or accredited to be such a person?! A TV tarot card expert? Or was Criswell the Californian Nancy Reagan's go-to astrology guru?
Grok is probably correct = "immersed" is the perfect word to use. Charles was baptized by immersion in his youth and teen years, into what since V2 has been The City of Fallen Angels. Hollywood Babylon and all that. What a place to grow up. A sizable chunk of it burned down a little less than a year ago. There are hundreds of high quality youtube vids giving copious details about how satanically perverted or demon infested Hollywood and LA in general, have become.
The greater L.A. Metro Area, especially "S.F. / Silicone Valley" has long been regarded to be the porn capital of the world. Various statistics prove that it was. "Heresy" can certainly be viewed (at least arguably) as a sort of "theological porn". Introibo considers "Feeney-ism" to be heresy (or tantamount to it) in his above blog post.
If you seek to understand why CC thinks and acts the way he does, just consider what Grok refers to as "the milieu" in which he has lived most of his life from age 6 onwards.

A quick off-topic question:
ReplyDeleteThere was a lot of good commentary in the combox lately about the Thesis and its inherent flaws.
I've just seen a statement by a layman associated with the Thesis clergy who argues that the Eastern schismatics have material apostolic succession (based on the validity of their rites of episcopal consecration, I presume).
To me, this is erroneous, to say the least. What do you think?
God Bless,
Joanna
Joanna,
DeleteAs I understand it, EO have valid orders but not material apostolic succession. Traditionalist Bishops would have material succession.
As Van Noort teaches, "[During the Great Western Schism]...hierarchical unity was only materially, not formally, interrupted. Although Catholics were split three ways in their allegiance because of the doubt as to which of the [papal] contenders had been legitimately elected, still all were agreed in believing that allegiance was owed to one legitimate successor of Peter, and they stood willing to give that allegiance." (See Dogmatic Theology [1956] 2:131).

Dear Joanna,
DeleteMy understanding - and I am open to correction, because I am relying on memory and I don't have the reference material at hand - is that the so-called "Eastern Orthodox" dissidents, in reality, the Heterodox, do have what can be termed inadequate (synonymous with "material"? I don't know) apostolic succession because their valid orders go back to the Apostles. However, they do not have apostolic jurisdiction because they are not in communion with the Apostolic See. When, for instance, the Heterodox Ruthenian bishops entered into union with Rome at Brest in Poland (Brześć in Polish) in 1596, they became Catholic bishops of the Byzantine Rite, now possessing "full" or "adequate" ("formal"?) apostolic authority and jurisdiction.
I don't know whether this helps; maybe I'm muddying the waters and confusing you!
Best wishes,
Leo
They are talking about jurisdiction, not orders, when they're talking about material/formal apostolic succession.
DeleteGjergj Kastrioti
DeleteThat’s how I understand how most defenders of the “Thesis”
describe it. The teaching of theologian Van Noort aligns with that. Succession was broken materially not formally as all parties of the GWS wanted to be Catholic, and they would possess jurisdiction even if not appointed by a valid pope.
A couple have described it to me as having valid orders.
The clergy have developed sedeprivationism to a point where des Lauriers himself never did. That’s why I do not hold to the theory, although I’m open to it and have not completely ruled it out.
God Bless,
—-Introibo
Introibo, Leo, and Gjergj Kastrioti,
DeleteThank you all very much for your replies!
This is an excerpt from the Catholic Encyclopedia:
"The Greek Church, embracing all the Eastern Churches involved in the schism of Photius and Michael Caerularius, and the Russian Church can lay no claim to Apostolic succession either direct or indirect, i.e. through Rome, because they are, by their own fact and will, separated from the Roman Communion."
(Fr. Joseph Wilhelm, "Apostolic Succession")
I take it to mean that the Eastern schismatics do not have even material apostolic succession which is exactly what you wrote, Introibo. I agree with you that it is the Traditionalist sedevacantist bishops who hold material apostolic succession now.
God Bless,
Joanna
Dear Joanna,
DeleteThank you for the quote from Fr. Wilhelm. He doesn't treat of the validity of the orders handed down within the Heterodox Churches of the East, because for him that is a separate issue from actual Apostolic succession, which means having jurisdiction. None of the dissident bodies, despite the validity of their orders, can have a claim on Apostolic succession because they are outside of the One, Holy, Catholic, APOSTOLIC and Roman Church. Of course Fr. Wilhelm knew that Rome has always accepted the validity of the orders found in those schismatical AND heretical outfits. Their orders may be traced back to the Apostles, but they use them outside of, and in opposition to, the Church established by Our Lord, the only means of salvation.
Which brings me back to Fr. Valerii Kudriavtsev, whom I mentioned in a previous post. He was originally ordained as a priest of the Russian Orthodox Church, whose orders are accepted by Rome as valid, but when he became a Catholic (?), he was conditionally ordained by a "Ukrainian Catholic" bishop. I wonder why?
Leo,
Deleteto the best of my knowledge, that Ukrainian priest was once associated with SGG under Bp. Dolan but there has been no mention of him in SGG bulletins for a very long time. It seems that over the years Fr. Kudriavtsev has gotten into conflict with pretty much everyone he ever met among sedevacantists (Poland, Ireland, the RCI clergy, the CMRI).
I'm sure Bp. Dolan had checked that priest's credentials before he took him under his wing though.
Is Fr. Kudriavtsev still sedevacantist? I have absolutely no idea. For him to endorse Eastern schismatics on Facebook a year ago (after he had basically burnt the bridges with quite a few sedevacantist groups) should raise questions about his current theological position. It's quite an enigma.
God Bless You,
Joanna
Dear Joanna,
DeleteYour posting reminds me of a "Ukrainian Orthodox - Kyivan Patriarchate" bishop, Yuri Yurchyk by name, from the Donbas, who visited the CMRI in Spokane quite a few years ago and was received into the Church by Bishop Pivarunas. He returned to Ukraine and not a word from him, or about him, since, if memory serves correctly. I wonder what happened to him? What is it about these supposed clerical converts from Heterodoxy? They give the impression of being erratic and unstable, as shown by Fr. Kudriavtsev and his antics.
May Matko Boska Częstochowska intercede for you,
Leo

ReplyDeleteI was forwarded a clip of a recent video of the installation of the new Anglican "archbishop" of Melbourne, Australia . During the service the following message of Novus Ordo "archbishop" Peter Comensoli of Melbourne was read out.
It said:
The words of welcome on behalf of the heads of churches of Victoria I extend our warm and prayerful welcome as you archbishop Thorpe begin your episcopal ministry among the Anglican faithful of this city. We greet you as a shepherd called to serve God's pilgrim people and as a brother in Christ entrusted with the mission to proclaim his Gospel and to witness to his healing love for our time. We pray the Holy Spirit will strengthen you with wisdom, gentleness, courage and charity. May your ministry bear fruit in unity, reconciliation and hope as especially among those in need. We look forward to walking the path of descipleship together, deeply bonds of friendship and common witness between our churches. May God grant you grace, peace and joy as we accompany each other in pastoral service. Be assured of our prayers and fraternal support. May Christ the good shepherd guide us ever closer on our pilgrim way to God's kingdom.........

Does anyone know what happened to Fr. Valerii Kudriavtsev, a former Russian Orthodox cleric who converted to become a Ukrainian Catholic priest? During the Russian invasion of Ukraine, he and his wife moved to Poland, then to the UK and subsequently to Ireland. He had a website, catholicmessage.org , which appears to have been taken down. A year ago, he endorsed the Facebook page of the "Holy Orthodox Metropolis of Ireland" with a "like":

Samson Chronicles (16A) Delilah's "pink hot pants"
ReplyDeletehttps://www.newoxfordreview.org/documents/letter-to-the-editor-january-2008/ . The following quote is a portion of a letter from Abbot Joseph of Redwood Valley, California, which was published almost 18 years ago:
"Over a dozen years ago, a woman came here for a retreat (I was guestmaster at the time). She was a corporate attorney. She had bleach-blond hair, wore Hollywood sunglasses and pink hot pants. As I showed her to her room in the retreat house, I matter-of-factly said: "By the way, make sure you put on some clothes before you come to Vespers." That was the beginning of a years-long dialogue (and sometimes debate) over various issues in the Church and points of faith and spiritual life in general. Little by little, she abandoned Her defensive and dissenting positions, and when she agreed a few years later to join me in a group going on pilgrimage to Our Lady of Guadalupe, something really opened up for her. Today she is a nun in a traditional, strictly cloistered monastery (needless to say, totally clothed), and she loves it! Whenever she writes me, she thanks me profusely for helping her out of her errors and guiding her to the truth."
A Hollywood "Platinum Blonde Bombshell" (!)
Would a "dumb blond" ditch her big bucks job?
Wiki article about that = "Blonde stereotype".
The Guadalupe tilma depicting OL of Guadalupe has very special meanings associated with the image, in connection to the narrative about Samson found in Judges 13-16.
After a brief search, it appears that Introibo has published one post with "Hollywood" in the title. It is "Hollywood's Unbroken Assault on Faith and Morals" (Jan. 5, 2015). A number of comments about "Hollywood" are found in the comment section of Introibo's post "Mel Gibson and the Force" (March 10, 2025). I agree with you regarding the SSPX.I too cannot attend the SSPX and their chapel is 10 miles from me.I was warned by their priest that we don't want you sede types coming here.He told me that I don't uphold the Papacy.I told him I do and that's why the SSPX is unCatholic.

Steven
Dear Steven,
DeleteThanks for your reply. Your response to that SSPX priest was spot on. We hold to the "sedevacantist" position because of our fidelity to the Papacy. If anything, theirs is exactly the opposite and actually undermines the Church's own teachings concerning the Papal office and our obligations thereto. They follow a species of neo-Gallicanism by not submitting to the man they hold to be Pope and, in effect, setting themselves above the Papacy. If that isn't schismatical, I don't know what is. If I am told they mean well, I tell my critic that meaning well and doing well are not necessarily synonymous. After all, isn't the road to Hell paved with good intentions?
God bless,
Leo
Leo, in response to the question of your final sentence, St. John Chrysostom is reported to have preached that the floor of (or the road to) hell, is "paved with the skulls of bishops."

https://tradcatfem.com/2018/08/17/the-floor-of-hell-is-paved-with-the-skulls-of-bishops/
The words attributed to St. John Chrysostom are not entirely accurate, but he did say something similar to that. And my Internet search to respond to your question, led me to encounter the "tradcatfem" blog site, for the first time. The blogger says that her blog is "anti Novus Ordo", but she fully accepts Leo XIV as a legitimate pope (= not a "nope"). Sounds SSPX-ish to me. That niche blog also has a number of pro-monarchy posts, such as:
https://tradcatfem.com/2019/11/23/monarchy-is-still-the-best-form-of-government/
I was thinking I would probably find mention of Charles Coulombe somewhere in such blog articles, but I did not see CC's name therein. This is the subject for which Coulombe is best known = his pro-monarchy stance. Introibo makes no mention of "monarchy" in his Coulombe post above, although that subject is alluded to in the Dec. 1 at 11:47 comment above. God bless you too.
Samson Chronicles (16B) "Samsonite Sex" as Apostasy
ReplyDeleteThe following is a quotation from a lecture of 100 years ago (= 1925), first published in German in 1927, and in English translation in 1930, under the title "In Defense of Purity". Many editions and translations have subsequently been published. The author is Dietrich von Hildebrand (1889-1977).
"Every abuse of sex is a desecration: it further involves a specific defilement. There are aspects of sex which are displayed immediately when it is isolated and no longer 'formed' from within by wedded love and the consciousness of God's sanction -- namely, the siren-song of sensual attraction with its poisonous sweetness, and diabolic evil lust, both displaying a peculiar power to corrode and defile the soul. The moment any man in his employment of sex 'wills' one of these two aspects, and gives himself up to it, he incurs a mysterious defilement and separates himself in an altogether unique fashion from God... We are face to face with the mystery of sex... Whenever sex is indulged in for the sake of its sensuous appeal, and whenever it is withdrawn from its place in marriage and separated from its function as the expression of reverent and lawful wedded love, whereby, as we have seen, its quality is completely changed, the person concerned is defiled, his soul is MADE CAPTIVE to the flesh, and A MYSTERIOUS APOSTASY from God takes place, unmatched for its PARTICULAR ENIGMATIC QUALITY by any other sin."
My emphasis added with CAPS. Notice the number of times Samson is made captive, and sex alluded to, in Judges 14-16. There is "a particular enigmatic quality" to Judges 14-16. Samson seems so different than all the rest of the judges. The "sex" in Judges 14-16, signifies APOSTASY. (777333)
Frankly - sorry Joanna - I wish these half-baked 'Samson Chronicles' would cease; however, INTROIBO (or anyone else, esp. TW) this raises a point I'm uncertain about, viz. what were Adam's sins, precisely?
DeleteI have heard it said that he felt strangely attracted to the fallen Eve and hence cheap, physical lust came into existence; and that, I think perhaps according to one of the 'principal' mystics (though I may very well be mistaken) that human sexuality took on a deranged nature and developed not only to the disgust of God but also - if such a thing were possible - to His surprise.
Any light and or corrections very much appreciated.
When I was still in NO I recall reading that God intended procreation to be as the Annunciation. I have no idea if true.

DeleteSamson Chronicles (16C) Theology of the Bawdy
ReplyDelete"Bawdy and tawdry educational devices are not intrinsically evil, but rather little winks at wickedness, acknowledging the reality of evil -- which is the first step in avoiding it. The bawdy is distinct from pornographic depictions of excess and extremism insofar as it does not intend to elicit erotic or errant reaction. On the contrary, the only thing the bawdy seeks to stimulate is laughter in a fitting response to the ridiculous. The bawdy is not titillating or degrading. Classical crudities are not provocative or malicious. They are merely mischievous. Though, objectively, they depict sin, or at least sinful nature, they retain an element of innocence and playfulness, providing a momentary and recreational escape from the law... The bawdy is undeniably more intellectual than passionate, turning on puns, absurdity, double-entendre, and counter-pointing, while pornography is never clever. Though care must be taken that lines are not crossed, the bawdy creates an atmosphere of moral relaxation in a spirit of festivity for the sake of moral fortitude, having conceded and cautioned against those lower inclinations and foibles that man must bear... Everything should be taken with common sense and a sense of humor. Humor sustains sanity, for it provides the relief and balance required to avoid insanity. It keeps men level. It keeps them healthy. People are refreshed more readily by arrant absurdities than by academic analyses."
https://crisismagazine.com/opinion/theology-bawdy is the source of the above quote, from an article dated Jan. 6, 2015. Charles Coulombe (= CC) is the subject of Introibo's above post. Given how CC is noted in a comment above to have a very keen sense of humor, and how often CC writes for Crisis magazine, one might think CC was the author of those words. Not so. The author is Sean Fitzpatrick. Bawdy of a certain sort can be found in Judges 14:10-20, related to Samson's riddle. An article about that is: " "Plowing with a Heifer" in Judges 14:18: Tracing a Sexual Euphemism", by Shalom M. Paul, found on pp. 163-167 of the 2008 book "Sacred History, Sacred Literature" (edited by Shawna Dolansky; Winona Lake, Indiana; Eisenbrauns) -- (777333)
It is very difficult reading and trying to understand Scriptures. I give up often as it is also hard to look up commentary online when your eyes hurt from all this web browsing. And this is how I /we find the Truth. Very difficult it all is. I guess I can see the sex stuff having to do with apostasy but what does commentary say about these chapters? My eyes hurt too much to look up!
ReplyDeleteTo @ 9:14 : I'm sure we can all sympathize with you. Some Scriptures are hard to understand. The last book of the Bible is perhaps the best example. St. Jerome opined that there are more mysteries artfully concealed in that book, than the sum total of all the alphabetic letters in that book. As regards "sex stuff having to do with apostasy", that is a fairly common literary topos or trope in the Bible. We have it much easier than earlier generations! Nowadays, all we need to do is consult "Aunty Google" (as Leo refers to "her" at 8:19 above) and search sex apostasy in the bible , and "AI" responds: "The Bible heavily links spiritual unfaithfulness (apostasy) to sexual immorality (adultery/prostitution) portraying Israel as a faithless wife forsaking God for idols (Jeremiah, Ezekiel)." To that, one can add the book of Hosea = Osee; what is related about King Solomon; the first chapter of the NT book of Romans, etc., etc. Another AI result I got was: "In biblical context, spiritual unfaithfulness (idolatry) and sexual immorality are deeply intertwined concepts, with the latter often serving as a metaphor for the former." -- "What does commentary say... (?) you ask. Haydock Scriptural Commentary? Cornelius a Lapide (1567-1637) commentary? Patristic or scholastic era Catholic commentary? (In answer to that last question, but in regard to Samson only, a superb source is the book "Milton's Samson and the Christian Tradition" by F. Michael Krouse. And another good book about sex and various other major themes too, as found in the Judges narrative about Samson, is "Samson: A Secret Betrayed, a Vow Ignored", by James L. Crenshaw.)
DeleteFirst, one can use AI and other resources, to locate specific biblical verses that have the sex = apostasy theme in question. Then one can go from there. You seem to refer to eyeball strain. For that, you probably need to either cut back your screen time, or see an eye doctor. Don't waste your time or your eyeball strain trying to "figure out" Samson! I can do that for you! I need to get off the "sex" aspect of Samson, and explain Samson from other exegetical angles! Mention of "sex" can sometimes get people too "worked up" or agitated. For that, I apologize. God bless, 777333.
Thanks for info! Well, I don't use AI as even elon musk admits using it is summoning the demon. I don't need more demon interaction. I don't go to mainstream doctors for more nonsense. Screen time is meant to hurt us but sadly there is no way to get info for many of us but this eye straining emf burning way. God bless!

Greetings to Introibo and other friends. I'm the young Spanish agnostic who occasionally writes on this blog.
ReplyDeleteI'm sorry to bother you, but I read an article on a website in my country in which a priest made several statements about Pope Paul VI's encyclical Humanae vitae. These are criticisms that sedevacantists might share. Father Aberasturi said:
"We would have to place ourselves in Humanae vitae, as the pastoral and doctrinal beginning of today's cataclysm, at the level of a large part of the Church; which, also and especially because of this, is no longer Catolic.
Humanae Vitae introduced, as was its nature, a "novelty"—here all the conciliar and post-conciliar ideas have been incorporated—so harmful to the very being of "conjugal love" and, therefore, to the Essence of the Matrimonial Vocation, that not only has the Church not recovered from the earthquake it caused, but it is now very difficult to reverse.
The very specific and concrete—so accurately described—concepts of the “primary” and “secondary” ends of marriage, whether Catholic or natural, were suppressed. The emphasis was placed on defending and pursuing “Procreation” as the primary objective, because only this “context” upholds the truth and value of conjugal love.
Logically, the matter didn't stop there. On the contrary. A “trap” was sought in the physiology of women to “support” this theology and pastoral approach, already misguided and corrupted. This “trap,” legitimized from above, was none other than resorting to the woman's infertile days. In men, all days are “fertile” until they lose that capacity.
But, as is human nature: “where there's a will, there's a way.” First, it's said that it applies only in “extreme” cases, accepted in good conscience. “Cases” that quickly become “always”: the exception transforms into the rule and the norm. And everyone was so happy. And of course, let's enjoy life, and no more uncomfortable ties!"
To which a non-sedevacantist Catholic woman replied—I don't know if the priest is one—:
ReplyDelete"Humanae Vitae makes it clear that recourse to natural methods should only be made in serious matters.
You are lying when you say that it is left solely to the conscience of the spouses.
Furthermore, you are also lying when you say that accepting recourse to infertile periods in certain cases is a novelty: We find it in the previous Magisterium, both in Casti Connubii and in conferences for obstetricians in which the 'pre-conciliar' Papacy had deemed such recourse legitimate for circumstances that require it.
You are also lying when you say that the teaching on the hierarchy of ends has been abolished.
In Theology of the Body, Saint John Paul II explicitly states that the traditional teaching on hierarchy (primary and secondary ends) remains intact.
You are also lying when you say that 'conjugal love' is something foreign to Tradition. Saint Thomas Aquinas himself defines marriage." as "the highest possible form of friendship," and quoting Chrysostom, Thomas says that of all the ways God could have chosen to create humans, He chose marriage so that people would understand that their origin lies in love."
So, as usual, I'm confused. Who's right?
Thank you

In regard to the "Theology of the Body" (= TOB) of "Nope Ain't" JP2, as noted in the 8:07 comment above, TOB was also noted in a comment of Aug. 31 at 2:32AM, of Introibo's "Dimondites" post of Aug. 25, 2025. It is noted there that Ann Barnhardt, in one of her biz blog posts of about two months previous (June 15), found TOB to be so problematic, that it led her to seriously question whether JP2 was even a pope, let alone a saint. She hasn't officially declared JP2 to be an antipope yet, but she seems to be hinting at that in her June 15 blog post.
DeleteThank you, Introibo; you're very kind. It's things like this that make me agnostic; I can't understand how there's so much confusion allowed by God. What you explain in the article is unknown to most of the faithful, and it's not taught by the Church. If the Truth is supposedly only found in small, isolated sedevacantist groups in a few countries, that means almost no one can know the Truth.
ReplyDeletePlease excuse my reflection, and thank you again.
@anon12:30
DeleteIf you look at the Book of the Apocalypse there is worldwide deception. This was told to us beforehand. "When the Son of Man comes, will he find faith on the earth?" (St. Luke 18:8). It's obviously rhetorical as Christ is God and knows only a few would be found.
However, anyone who sincerely seeks the truth and stays free from serious sin, will not be forsaken by God. One way or another, they can be brought into the Church. Nothing is impossible with God.

Dear Spain reader...one must study and pray to know. Only with knowledge comes understanding, right?? You seem to be doing that and many many never do. Hence the punishment. In this day and age of evil internet, much can still be discovered and learned. I get the same objections from NOers. They believe there is safety in numbers...the billion so called Catholics in NO. They ignore Holy Scriptures...only 8 saved in the flood etc. 2 Thessalonians 2. Jesus asked if He'd find faith on earth...so those billion fooled have the true faith? No, sadly. Blessings to us all! Very hard times.
ReplyDeleteHello Introibo
ReplyDeleteWhat was the reason for having jewish table blessing prayers over the bread and wine in the New Mass. What is the best way to explain this to a Novus Ordo "Catholic"
God bless
New to Tradition
New To Tradition,
DeleteI suggest you get a copy of "The Ottaviani Intervention." Written by Cardinals Ottaviani and Bacci, as well as some other theologians (Fr DePauw was consulted), it explains it all!
To answer your question, the Intervention explains that the Jewish prayers were a denial of Transubstantiation.
“Blessed are you, Lord God of all creation, for through your goodness we have received the bread we offer you:
fruit of the earth and work of human hands, it will become for us the bread of life.”
“Blessed are you, Lord God of all creation, for through your goodness we have received the wine we offer you: fruit of the vine and work of human hands, it will become our spiritual drink.”
Notice "bread of life" (lower case) and "spiritual drink." The Intervention (pgs. 37-38 in my edition) says that the bread and wine "are only spiritually--not substantially--changed."

Dear Introibo,
DeleteThe main author of the so-called "Ottaviani Intervention" was not Cardinal Alfredo Ottaviani, but Fr. Michel-Louis Guérard des Lauriers (yes, THAT Guérard des Lauriers who invented THAT Thesis). Fr. Anthony Cekada's magnum opus, "Work Of Human Hands" is the best reference to consult on the Jewish-inspired, but touched up a bit, blessings/prayers found in the Bogus Ordo's "Offertory".
Note also the emphasis on 'the work of human hands'
DeleteMarie-Julie Jahanny received advance warnings about this and which seem to reference the excerpt from the blasphemous Talmud:
"I give you a warning. The disciples who are not of My Gospel are now working hard to remake according to their ideas, and under the influence of the enemy of souls, a Mass that contains words which are odious in My Sight. When the fatal hour arrives where the faith of my priest is put to the test, it will be these texts that will be celebrated, in this second period."
"The first period is the one of My Priesthood, existing since Me. The second is the one of the persecution, when the enemies of the Faith and of Holy Religion will impose their formulas in the book of the second celebration. Many of My holy priests will refuse this book, sealed with the words of the abyss. Unfortunately, amongst them are those who will accept it."
Leo
DeleteNot true. I’ve seen the correspondence with Fr. DePauw. des Lauriers was consulted, yes. Ottaviani and Bacci were theologians in their own right—Ottaviani being Prefect of the Supreme Sacred Congregation of the Holy Office. There are those who wish to rewrite history, but Ottaviani stands strong.
Work of Human Hands is great, but not for someone “New to Tradition.” The OI is much easier to understand and explain to others. Fr Cekada’s book is for those advanced in apologetics.
God Bless,

Introibo,
Deletethank you very much for your clarification!
I was also convinced that Guerard de Lauriers was the theologian behind the Ottaviani Intervention, and Cardinals Ottaviani and Bacci only served as signataries of high esteem and erudition.
The information you provide is invaluable!
God Bless,
Joanna
Dear Introibo (3:17 AM):
DeleteRegarding the authorship of the "Ottaviani Intervention", please see Page 134 of "Work Of Human Hands". It appears that Fr. Guérard des Lauriers' input was greater than you would suggest - or was Fr. Cekada mistaken?
Leo
DeleteFr Cekada is completely wrong. des Lauriers was indeed consulted, but is not the author. A small group of theologians of the highest orthodoxy and learning assisted the great Ottaviani. Lest it be forgotten, Cardinal Ottaviani was a genius in his own right having earned three doctorates; in theology, canon law, and philosophy.
Fr. Cekada is not always the best source for information. To bolster his anti-Una Cum stance, there was a decree he cited taken out of context which actually teaches the opposite of what he claimed. Some R&R picked up on his claim about des Lauriers and accepted it uncritically.
The chief reason I started this blog was to honor my spiritual father, Fr. Gommar A. DePauw, JCD, who converted me and taught me the Faith. He was a peritus at Vatican II and was THE FIRST to publicly denounce the Council in 1964 while it was still going on!!
Fr. knew all the players personally and his first hand information can't be beat for what really happened. Let's face it: Vatican II began on Fr. DePauw's 44th birthday and he helped the anti-Modernists (led by Ottaviani) against the Modernists and Roncalli. He was there for every session of the Robber Council and took meticulous notes.
During the same time (1962-1965), Anthony Cekada was a little kid, 11 when V2 started and 14 when it ended.
Fr. Cekada has done much good for Traditionalists, but also had some "less than stellar moments" to be charitable. May he rest in peace.

Interesting comments! I wish you'd write a short book about Fr DePauw and the Council etc.
DeleteI also cannot understand why so many traditionalists refer to children as kids...baby goats.
Dear Introibo (5:48 PM):
DeleteYou are being a bit too hard on Fr. Cekada. His age during "V2" is quite irrelevant. The information he provided was only as good as his sources, and he supplied links to the relevant documentation. Of course he got things wrong, as he was not the Magisterium, but a fallible person like the rest of us. Incidentally, Fr. Guérard des Lauriers wrote about his participation in preparing the "Ottaviani Intervention", and was possibly interviewed on the subject as well. Was he "completely wrong" too?
"New to Tradition" would profit from "Welcome to the Traditional Latin Mass", a 37-page booklet written by - surprise, surprise! - Fr. Anthony Cekada!
Poor Cardinal Ottaviani! Despite being a genius in his own right, and having earned three doctorates, the sad and tragic thing is that he he still accepted "V2", like so many otherwise respected authorities.
Anonymous @ 6:13 PM:
DeleteIt is indeed irksome that so many "traditionalists" refer to children as "kids" - quite uncouth and unnecessary!
Leo
DeleteFr. Cekada’s age is relevant insofar as he became the very arrogant and “follow me or die” cleric he once abhorred.
He thought his take was correct even when corrected by those who know better. I’m thinking of his defense of the MURDER of Terri Schiavo.
A top tier neurosurgeon who was a qualified expert in persistent vegetative states (PVS) told him he was wrong as to the FACTS and two approved theologians (DePauw and Stepanich) told him he was wrong as to the application of the moral principles involved, Cekada simply dug his heels in and dismissed them, continuing to defend the indefensible.
He was very arrogant and thought he was an approved theologian, which he clearly was not (and could not be). May God have mercy on him.
“Welcome to the Traditional Mass” and “Traditionalists, Infallibility, and the Pope” by Cekada are both excellent.
God Bless,

DeleteAs to the great Ottaviani, never “accepted V2.” There would be no Traditionalist Movement had not God used the Cardinal as one of his instruments. His doctorates were far from wasted. See my post:

This info re Ottaviani and Cekeda are helpful. I find old videos of Cekeda hard to watch. He reminds me of Sanborn with his laughing etc. I am not saying laughing is wrong but mixed with these serious topics, especially saving our souls, seems very odd. Regarding the follow me or die comment, I had a traditional priest tell me I wanted Novus Ordites to follow me (meanwhile I learned this priest still believed in some novus ordo lies). I told him I wanted them to follow Christ...not me!
DeleteYour reply to that priest was a good one; I guess he was R&R, wasn't he?
DeleteRegarding Fr. Cekada, I believe his personal charisma worked to his own detriment as some lay people started to see in him a great buddy and a theological expert (yes, I've seen references to him as "theologian" which is absurd yet denigrating Fr. Stepanich who was a real Church-approved pre-Vatican 2 theologian).
Fr. Cekada was a well-researched Traditionalist priest who did much good for spreading the true Faith. It's a pity he did not retract his glaringly erroneous (and scandalous) stance on the murder of Terri Schiavio (even Novus Ordites could see this was a murder scheme by the unfaithful husband of Mrs. Schiavo). May Fr. Cekada rest in peace.
Yes he was R&R. Thanks to him I saw all the problems and compromises and left R&R.
DeleteYes those same Novus Ordites who understood the murder of Terry went and got the murdered baby covid shots. Shocking. I guess they all still march for life, with that evil poison in their veins, those who haven't yet died from that shot. God have mercy on us!
Nice article, Introibo. Keep up the great work!

Hello! I am renewing my blog. If anyone is interested, I will leave the link here. Criticism is welcome.

Thanks. I bookmarked your blog. I don't go to movies for decades but I guess I can pass along to those who are duped by all this crud.
DeleteAll right. Have a blessed day.
DeleteIntroibo,
ReplyDeleteThank you for having exposed Coulombe! Under the guise of a (professional) "trad Catholic" he's been peddling syncretism (here a mixture of the occult and a warped vision of Thomism) spiced up with monarchist eccentricity, all wrapped in a suit coat and a bow tie. How very anti-mainstream of him!
One would think this is some fringe individual with little to no following but the reality is quite different (and frightening!).
There has been an alarming interest in occult pseudo-philosophers like the despicable pagan blasphemerJulius Evola ("but he was an aristocrat!") out there among those who call themselves Traditionalists.
I had some first-hand experience with monarchist "Traditionalists" who feature Evola's bio, a Black Sabbath cover, and regular sermons of a sedevacantist priest all on the same webpage of their monarchist organization, plus blasphemous "poetry" by a member of their monarchist organization (a man convinced that "the more similarities are found between Christianity and other religions, the better it is for Christianity") , and more articles actually promoting occult syncretism by Guenon, Evola, and the likes of them.
Words fail me.
God Bless You,
Joanna
Who is this guy?
DeleteJoanna,
DeleteVery interesting! We must continue to expose the evil.
Poni,
What "guy" is it to whom you are referring?
God Bless,
---Introibo
The Black Sabbath guy who loves Julius Evola
DeletePoni,
DeleteI guess my comment was a bit confusing but it's hard to convey much information in a few short lines when one writes about something for the first time.
The website I referred to is in Polish (hence I did not provide any link). It's a website of the Polish Monarchist Organization whose president is a local sedevacantist and a very close friend of the local sedevacantist priest. The official website of that organization is a scandalous amalgam of Traditionalist Catholic content and articles about neofolk music, occult thinkers, and the rest I alluded to.
I don't know who's directly responsible for that embedded Black Sabbath cover video on their main page but it has been there for years now.
All in all, anyone who sees a sermon by a sedevacantist priest and scrolls down to find a Black Sabbath something on the same webpage (plus even worse stuff upon further digging) is justified in not wanting to have anything to do with such "Traditional Catholics" as those syncretists.
I can only pray that a true sedevacantist apostolate emerges some day in Poland.
God Bless,
Joanna
Ok
DeleteDear Joanna,
DeleteI have come across several "Traditional Catholic" monarchists, who, without exception, have been very peculiar characters indeed ("eccentric" is an understated description of such people). Invariably, there are links between monarchism and occultism, not only in Poland, but also in France, English-speaking countries and elsewhere. Why should this be so? Anyhow, the British Royal Family has been in cahoots with Masonry and shady movements for a long time.
Is the Polish sedevacantist priest you referred to Ksiądz Rafał Trytek of the RCI? Is he a monarchist?
Idź z Bogiem!
Leo
Yes, that's him. He's been affiliated with the far-right, nationalist and monarchist organizations and people.
DeleteIs he a monarchist? I believe he is since he preached in a sermon that "our patriotism must be monarchist".
I'm sorry to hear that you too have no Mass to attend.
God Bless You and "Zostań z Bogiem!"
Joanna
Dear Joanna,
DeleteThank you for confirming my suspicions. The situation in Poland concerning the Faith is very bleak indeed. Nearly all the Polish people I come across think of Karol Wojtyła as one of Poland's greatest heroes. He is actually one of Polska's greatest scoundrels!
Bóg zapłać!
